Meranti (Dark Red Seraya), harvested from Malaysia, is an aesthetically pleasing lumber species commonly used for millwork, window and door applications as well as boatbuilding. Sometimes called “Philippine Mahogany,” Meranti has several subspecies, but in order to offer the most consistent product, we offer three specific subspecies, Dark Red Seraya, DUC (Dark Uniform Color) and Nemesu. Dark Red Seraya has dark red to purple-brown coloring with white streaks and a straight or interlocked grain. It’s durable, resists rot, is easy to work with and paints and stains equally well. It’s comparable to Khaya and Spanish Cedar in color, stability, and durability.
