Lacewood is harvested from Tropical South America and is commonly used in Millwork applications such as cabinetry, veneers, fine furniture, musical instruments, and turned objects. Lacewood is rated as non-durable and has poor insect/borer resistance. Very conspicuous ray flecking that gives this wood its namesake, Snakewood.  The heartwood itself is a reddish brown, with very wide gray or light brown rays which result in a lace pattern when quartersawn. Grain is usually straight; coarse uneven texture due to the difference in densities between the regular wood tissue and the denser rays.
